Psychological work environment and well-being training for managers

Stress management and leadership styles have shown a positive effect on employee mental health. Specifically, relationship- and task-oriented leadership styles and high quality of manager-employee interaction have been positively associated with employee mental health.

LEAD is first and foremost a management and organizational development company. We have extensive experience with both internal and external management training in stress, well-being, organizational and learning culture, as well as major crisis management in both private and public workplaces. The Psychological Work Environment and Wellbeing program is based on our own and latest research, and you will receive relevant literature before each module. The programme introduces you to evidence-based management methods and models, and you will be taught by experienced management and organizational consultants who are trained occupational psychologists.

Close connection between theory and your everyday life

The psychological work environment and well-being training consists of an intensive interaction between short presentations, sprint-inspired case work in small teams and reflection exercises.

Briefly about mental health and well-being at work

What is the psychological work environment?

The psychological work environment includes the factors in the workplace that affect employees' mental health and well-being. Examples include relationships between colleagues, management and employees, work tasks, culture and workloads, stress and communication in the workplace.

A good psychological work environment can increase job satisfaction, motivation, productivity and reduce the risk of stress and burnout. Therefore, it is important that workplaces take responsibility for creating and maintaining a good psychological work environment for their employees. You may not think much about it if you have a good mental work environment in your workplace, but you will definitely notice if you have a poor mental work environment.

What is a poor psychological work environment?

A poor psychological work environment can manifest itself in many ways, but is always characterized by a negative impact on employees' mental health and well-being to a greater or lesser extent. Examples include bullying, harassment, perceptions of unfairness or discrimination, as well as conflicts and poor relationships between employees or with management. It can also manifest itself in excessive demands and short deadlines, lack of support and recognition, unclear expectations and unclear tasks.

A poor psychological work environment can have serious consequences for employees, both in terms of physical and mental health problems and reduced work capacity. It can also have consequences for the company's finances and productivity, which is why it's important that workplace management takes responsibility for preventing and managing mental health issues.

How to increase workplace wellbeing and create a better work environment?

There are many ways in which management can focus on increasing well-being and a good working environment in the workplace. Examples of focus areas could be:

  • Create a positive and supportive work culture: Create a culture where employees feel valued and recognized for their contributions. Focus on collaboration and support between colleagues and managers.
  • Create clear and realistic work tasks: Make sure you give employees clear instructions on their tasks and responsibilities. Check that the workload is realistic and aligned with employee resources.
  • Focus on work-life balance: Allow for flexible working hours and working from home to give employees the opportunity to balance work and life.
  • Support health and wellness: Promote a healthy lifestyle in the workplace with opportunities for exercise and healthy eating. Allow for breaks and relaxation during the workday.
  • Prevent and manage stress: Help employees manage stress and allow them to take breaks and interrupt their work when necessary.
  • Create opportunities for personal and professional development: Make sure employees have the opportunity to develop their professional and personal skills - and give them feedback and recognition for their efforts.

These actions can help create a positive and supportive workplace where employees thrive and have the opportunity - and desire - to perform at their best.
