LVI survey
An intriguing study by Kaiser et al (2010) confirms a high correlation between versatility and leader effectiveness. The leaders being measured were assigned a score in each of the four opposing leadership styles used in the Leadership Versatility Index (LVI) development tool: directive leadership style, supportive leadership style, strategic leadership style and operational leadership style. The leaders' respective scores in the four leadership styles were converted into a percentage. This percentage reflects the leader's versatility and how close the leader is to balancing the different dimensions. When comparing the leader's versatility with the leader's overall effectiveness measured on a scale of 1-10, the correlation between versatility and effectiveness can be seen. Based on this, it could be concluded that the more versatile, the higher the effectiveness of a manager and their leadership style.
Model by Kaiser et al. (2010)
The study results from Kaiser et al (2010) also show a high correlation between versatility and employee satisfaction, loyalty and self-esteem. Another corroborating factor is also higher team morale, engagement and cohesion.
