Implementation

The art of implementation

If your implementation process needs inspiration, expert advice to challenge your approach, a push forward, or hands-on support to reach the finish line – consider contacting us.

What is LEAD’s unique approach to implementation?

With LEAD as your implementation partner, you gain access to consultants specializing in all three core areas of implementation. Our approaches can be seamlessly combined across these three levels, tailored to your specific needs.

  • Inspiration: Building general implementation competencies (“We teach you how to implement”)
  • Advisory: Advisory programs and everyday implementation (“We implement together with you and train you to do it yourself”)
  • Staffing: Staffing solutions in your practice (“We implement for you and train you in the process”)

Implementation leadership: Turning intention into impact

To implement is to realize an idea. To bring an ambition to life. To turn a New Year’s resolution into real weight loss. Simply put: to do what you say you will do. This is not easy on a personal level — let alone in an organization.

Organizational implementation is about enabling many people to act on ideas that are not their own. It is not just about adopting a new IT system, but about truly engaging with it, learning from it, and using its features – eventually replacing old work routines. Implementation follows change as the extra effort required to ensure that new initiatives become embedded in everyday practice.

While our core tasks may remain stable over time, continuous movement and adaptation to change—whether technological, professional, or resource-related—is required to deliver them. We must work in new ways, with new people and tools.

Strategic, cross-cutting, or deep organizational changes are often the most important—but also the hardest—to implement. Many links in the management chain must be coordinated up, down, and across. It is you and your colleagues who must translate good intentions into real behaviors and relationships. This is difficult partly because management attention often shifts quickly to the next project or initiative. Implementation lags, and the intended benefits are lost.

Structures rarely help employees much here: while both development and operations tasks are clearly placed, there is often no function responsible for bridging the two.

In short, is there a massive need for implementation leadership that turns intention into impact—perhaps also at your workplace? Here’s where LEAD can help.

Four approaches

We use four main implementation approaches depending on your situation:

Do-it-yourselves

The organization must adapt rapidly in response to new requirements and changes.

Take charge

The organization is equipped to execute change itself—with some autonomy.

Close guideance

The organization receives comprehensive support through a complex process.

Together

The path through change is found collectively and developed along the way.

The best implementation for you

By combining our three levels of implementation assistance with our four approaches, LEAD can help deliver exactly the type of implementation you need—and at precisely the scale required.

Our implementation consultants draw on colleagues with broad expertise in organizational and leadership development—and on deep experience advising from executive level downwards. This gives you a holistic approach: you don’t just get one consultant but access to an entire house of expertise. We operate throughout the management chain—from strategic sparring and leadership team development to hands-on operational change management at employee level.

What’s in it for you?

Concrete results. Too often, implementation is treated as a project that ends with delivering a product – without anyone ensuring that it makes a difference in the organization. With LEAD as your partner, you get support for the entire implementation journey – from first steps to real, measurable impact in your daily operations.

LEAD is not just a project house (though we have project competencies); we are a leadership and organizational consultancy focused on outcomes—not just completed implementations but achieved impact. We challenge your organizational context beyond the project itself, ensuring lasting anchoring of results. We are also committed to leaving your organization stronger than when we arrived—with more competencies embedded.

You don’t buy just one consultant—you gain full-scale leadership and an organizational house able to deliver whatever scope or approach is needed. Our services range from raising internal competence levels to hands-on staffing—and we define the right level together with you. You’ll find that LEAD’s support isn’t limited by rigid formats; we deliver robust and sustainable high-quality solutions measured against each implementation’s expected effect.

For every assignment, we agree on clear organizational goals, ambitions, and desired outcomes—helping you assess whether your investment has paid off.

Implementation

Advisory & everyday implementation

We implement together with you and train you to do it yourself.

Everyday implementation is a research-based method where leaders/employees acquire new skills applied in daily life to handle external change. This method enables individuals themselves to manage change—for example by implementing new workflows.

Staffing solutions with real impact

Sometimes organizations don’t just need advice, they need an extra set of skilled hands onsite. With LEAD Onsite Implementation Leadership, one of our experienced consultants temporarily joins your organization to help drive concrete projects or initiatives forward.

Whether it’s tackling an acute challenge or managing a planned change process, our consultants bring the extra capacity and know-how to ensure that key initiatives don’t just get delivered – but take root in daily practice.

Anyone who has faced a large or complex project knows the demands it places on people – and how easily consequences ripple through an organization. Here, a LEAD consultant provides that “extra gear”: making sure changes are anchored and acted upon by those who must work differently.

Assignments vary, but the principle is the same: enough time onsite to build trust, create momentum, and see things through. Typically, this includes problem analysis, solution design and modeling, building strong project teams and structures – and overseeing the actual implementation, from coordination to progress reporting.

  • Engage stakeholders
  • Clarify task
  • Align approach

  • Harvest Effects

Implementation is not a desk job

The most critical task is to ensure that all relevant stakeholders are engaged and fully equipped to understand the changes they are facing—and what is required of them. This means that a significant part of the LEAD consultant’s role is to act as a liaison, both internally and externally within the organization. Implementation is not a desk job.

We typically become involved in implementation processes and projects when you have a temporary need for hands-on implementation expertise that does not guarantee a permanent position within your own organization.

The need for implementation support

Sometimes, the situation may simply be that a project manager has too much on their plate or requires supplementary, specialized implementation competencies.

Perhaps you are already engaged in an organizational development program with LEAD and wish to ensure that initiatives are anchored in daily practice.

You may also require support to foster an implementation culture within your organization. Together, we can develop and establish an implementation office that helps your organization build implementation capabilities. For example, such an office could support leaders and employees onsite throughout their implementation journeys, while also providing cross-organizational support in terms of further education and training in implementation practices.

Alternatively, you may need to reinforce your team with experienced professional right now—to steer through a challenging process, such as strategy execution, the rollout of new workflows, managing complex cross-functional challenges, increasing the impact of initiatives, crisis management, mergers, or launching key organizational initiatives.

Why use External Consultants as LEAD?

Bringing in an external consultant is an effective way to temporarily boost your organization’s capacity compatible professional who quickly drives progress while respecting context/staff perspectives. There’s value in being external: not part of ongoing positioning/politics; able to focus purely on solutions; free to explore issues internal staff may avoid rising.

This sideline position offers special mandate—allowing movement across organizational diagrams unbound by usual hierarchies—ideal for closely overseeing every aspect of implementation from core outwards. That’s why at LEAD we’re not typical project managers but true implementation leaders working across organizations—from high-level decision support down to ensuring someone remembered the important role of bringing croissants for the kickoff meetings!

If your organization faces an upcoming implementation challenge, consider using LEAD’s onsite consultants. Our specialists work loyally toward intended outcomes while engaging colleagues actively throughout the process—delivering both effective results and strengthened engagement/ownership among staff.
