Why is it important to prevent or combat workplace bullying?

Workplace bullying can have serious consequences for both employees and the organization. These consequences include increased absenteeism, reduced job satisfaction and productivity, and a negative workplace culture. According to the Working Environment Act, employers are responsible for preventing physical or psychological harm resulting from bullying or sexual harassment.

LEAD offers holistic solutions to address workplace bullying. This includes training and workshops to raise awareness and help implement clear guidelines that prevent conflict. If bullying is already an issue, we support you with conflict resolution and initiatives to restore a healthy, respectful work environment. Our overall goal is to create a workplace where all employees feel safe, respected, and valued.

What is bullying?

Workplace bullying refers to repeated negative actions directed at one or more employees, creating an unsafe and demeaning atmosphere. It can take many forms—including verbal or physical harassment, isolation, or deliberate exclusion from work-related activities. Bullying is often systematic and ongoing, making it difficult for the targeted individual to defend themselves.

According to the Danish Working Environment Authority, bullying is defined as “when a person is regularly and over a prolonged period—or repeatedly in a gross manner—subjected to offensive actions perceived as hurtful or degrading.”

Examples of bullying include:

  • Verbal attacks such as ridicule or humiliating comments
  • Exclusion from social or work-related activities
  • Unreasonable monitoring or control of tasks
  • Spreading rumors or false accusations

How we can support you

Fact-finding & conflict assessment

We conduct thorough investigations of bullying situations in your organization. Through interviews with involved parties, we uncover what’s happening, how the bullying has developed, and facilitate conversations between those involved. The aim is to gain clear understanding so targeted actions can restore a healthy environment.

Leadership consulting

How do you handle workplace bullying as a leader?
We provide professional advice—analyzing, mapping, and guiding you through your specific challenges. We help interpret workplace assessments (APV) and provide concrete recommendations for maintaining dialogue if signs of bullying are found. Our goal is to help you create an action plan that fosters a healthy and safe culture.

Themed days

We offer themed days focused on preventing and combating workplace bullying. One popular session is “Is this Bullying?”—exploring what constitutes bullying/harassment. Participants gain insight into recognizing and addressing boundary-crossing behavior. Sessions can also be tailored to focus on diversity/inclusion—helping build an open, respectful culture where differences are valued and bullying prevented.

Leadership satisfaction
